American Hustle - production

Annapurna Pictures is a film production and distribution company founded by Megan Ellison in 2011.
Principal photography started on March 8, 2013 and wrapped in May 2013. The film was shot using locations in and around Boston, Massachusetts (such as in Worcester) and New York. Filming had to be put on hold in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings with the city in lockdown. After lockdown was lifted, the film wrapped its Boston shoot and spent its final few days of production in New York City.
The film is based on a true story (ABSCAM scandal 1970’s)
It’s only the second film in more than thirty years to have nominees in all four acting categories.
The actors in the film improvised for their characters in the movie. According to Christian Bale, most of the movie was improvised. During the filming he told director David O. Russell: “You realize that this is going to change the plot greatly down track.” David O. Russell replied: “Christian, I hate plots. I am all about characters, that’s it.”
